Today I’m sharing with you a peek into the music that I listened to while writing GILDED. In the video below, you’ll find me at Disney’s Music resort. I talk about the song that inspired GILDED’s first chapter, the songs that portray Jae’s emotions throughout the book and the songs that would make a great fit for GILDED’s soundtrack.

Do you listen to music while you are reading or writing?
I can’t listen to music while reading or writing, but I like listening to music before I write.
I’ll sometimes have music going on in the background but only if it is quiet and soothing and there are no lyrics. (Meditation/new age music, smooth jazz etc) Music with lyrics is a total distraction.
Lovely as ever, Christina.
Thanks guys! Glad you enjoyed!
Kelly and Bish- I like to listen to music when I’m fast drafting because it pulls me in the mood. But I can’t while I’m revising.
I can’t listen to music when I write. I’m easily distracted. 🙁
I can’t listen to music while reading or writing. But I recently beta-read a novel that made a certain song run through my head the whole time.
Oh sure I do! Sometimes the soundtrack provides extra inspiration, especially when I’m working on a first draft. 🙂
I find everyone’s comments so fascinating. I can totally see how some people can’t listen to music while they write while other’s can.
Awesome video, Christina! I love thinking about soundtracks for my books. I have had a couple of story ideas based on songs I’ve listened to, not that I’ve actually had a chance to write them. But I think music is a great place to start a story. The mood of a piece of music or the meaning of lyrics can be really inspiring, and the music you shared with us here was really cool. Thanks for sharing 🙂
I’m always interested in hearing other people’s playlists.
I like to listen to music when I draft and revise, either my favorite tunes or songs that match the manuscript.
Medeia- I’m the same way. After I’ve read a book that I really love, it’s fun to listen to the author’s soundtrack. It really gives you a new view of the mood of the novel.
